How to Wear Matte Eyeshadow

30.09.2021

Matte eyeshadow is an indispensable item in daytime eye makeup. But many are afraid to use them, thinking that matte makeup looks "flat". How to work with a matte texture?

1) On every day

To understand how to use matte eyeshadows, you first need to determine for what purpose they are generally needed in makeup. Makeup artists use matte eyeshadows most often to create everyday makeup, which is logical: evening looks, as a rule, cannot do without shiny shadows. So for everyday makeup, you should buy matte eyeshadows and choose natural, universal shades at the same time.

2) Monochrome makeup

And bright and dark eyeshadows with a matte texture are an option that is ideal for monochromatic eye makeup. A haze of cobalt or emerald shades, neon pink or red arrows for half an eyelid of the eye - matte shadows are perfect for these bold makeup options. So that in such monomake-up the shadows do not fall on the skin with spots, do not forget to first apply the primer. This tool will also help to make the color of the shadows appear as bright as possible.

3) In the eye crease

Another type of makeup that requires more matte than glitter eyeshadow - with an accent on the crease. It is the matte texture that allows creating the desired darkening, and with it, the effect of volume, giving the look depth and expressiveness. By the way, this makeup option is also good because it emphasizes the color of the eyes and makes them brighter.

4) Addition

And at the same time, matte eyeshadows are rather an addition to shadows with other effects (satin, shimmery, glittery). With rare exceptions (wide arrows drawn with shadows, among them) eye makeup, made with matte shades, really looks "flat". That is why matte colors are almost never found in large eyeshadow palettes.

5) Stippling

An important nuance is a very technique of applying matte shadows. They cannot be "smeared" over the eyelid by moving the brush from side to side. Firstly, it will fall on the skin under the eyes, and secondly, the coating will not turn out as bright as we would like, and is completely unstable. Matte shadows need to be "hammered" into the skin, for which it is advisable to have a small fluffy shadow brush with a straight cut. But not necessarily - patting movements of the fingertips will do.

6) Hooded eyelid

Probably the most practical make-up tool is matte shadows in makeup with an overhanging eyelid. Having such a feature of the structure of the face, in no case should shimmering shadows be applied to the upper eyelid. The shimmer usually attracts attention and visually increases the volume, while the overhang, on the contrary, needs to be masked with the help of dark shades. If the overhanging eyelid seems to be a problem, matte shadows (black, gray, brown) should be applied first in the crease and then shaded upwards.
