A Matter of Time: how to prolong the life of a pedicure?

21.09.2021

A home pedicure is a laborious process, a salon pedicure is a pleasant procedure, but not the most budgetary one. One way or another, there is no desire to update the pedicure too often. However, there are few ways to make it persistent.

During a pedicure, not only nails but also the skin is brought into their proper form. To keep the effect as long as possible, it is important not to forget about regular hydration. Using a foot cream or lotion every day will keep your skin soft, smooth, and dry while wearing sandals or any other open-toed shoes. When choosing a foot care product, opt for perfume-free products. Perfumed products contain synthetic fragrances - these substances affect nail polish and lead to cracks and chips.

To provide proper care for your toenails and soften the cuticles, warm baths are made during a pedicure to help steam out the skin. However, under the influence of water, not only the skin is steamed, but also the nail plate. And in this state, nail polish is applied to such a nail plate. And when the moisture evaporates and the nails return to their original appearance, the same deformation does not occur with the layers of nail polish. Hence the reason why nail polish subsequently chips off and comes off faster. Therefore, it is worth taking up the coating only when the nails are completely dry.

There are subtleties associated with nail polish application. One of the main rules - always wait until the previous layer is completely dry. Moreover, the waiting time should be at least three minutes. By the way, manicurists claim that the pedicure, in which more layers are applied, holds up much worse. So, if possible, instead of two or three layers of colored nail polish, it is better to apply one.

You also need to be able to dry layers of nail polish. Not everyone knows that warm air does not contribute to this. Some try to speed up the process and dry their nails by directing a stream of hot air from a hairdryer on them. On the contrary, nail polish begins to soften or even melt all together. The nail polish dries much better in the cold.

One of the main enemies of nail polish is bleach, which is added to the water in swimming pools. When going to swim, keep this in mind. By the way, seawater, on the contrary, is good for nails - it helps to restore and strengthen them: nails that were weak, exfoliated, soon become stronger and healthier.

There is no surer way to keep your pedicure in top condition by wearing closed shoes. Of course, in the summertime, more attention is paid to pedicure precisely because pairs with open socks are finally getting out of the far corners of the wardrobe, but from time to time it is still better to alternate them with closed models.
